Federal Chancellery Berlin

Design of the permanent exhibition"state gifts" in the foyer of the federal chanellery in Berlin, 2008

The exchange of gifts during official meetings has a long tradition and is today still an essential part of international diplomacy. In the main representation building of the German government, the Federal Chancellery, the old tradition can be relived.

The new exhibition in the foyer of the federal chancellery shows state gifts presented to the different Chancellors of Germany within a historical context. Through ten showcases visitors will have a good impression of the selective state visits of the Chancellors from Konrad Adenauer to Angela Merkel. Furthermore the gifts, documents and photographs reflect the particular foreign affairs and general political conditions  of the Chancellors of the last 60 years. One example, centrally located, is the legendary beach chair and a selection of gifts presented at the G8 Conference in Heiligendamm in 2007.

For this exhibtion COORDINATION has created a series of individual showcases which utilises the dynamic architectual space of the Chanellery. The distinctive triangle foundation of the showcases is the counterpart to the organic curved form of the main building and completes the foyer with an special accent.

Zeitgeschichtliches Forum Leipzig

Design of the permanent exhibition of the Forum of Contemporary History Leipzig of the foundation “Haus der Geschichte”, 2007

The permanent exhibition in the former Messepalast Leipzig tells about the history of dictatorship, opposition and resistance in the soviet occupation zone and the former GDR.
When planning and conceptualizing the exhibition, we set great value upon giving the 3500 original exhibits and time historic media documents sufficient space and sereneness and upon assigning a serving function to the design as its primary aim.
The result is a timeless place which allows for focused reading, seeing and understanding without diverting too much attention to itself.

"On 2000 sqm exhibition area the visitor is presented with an overview of German history. The Forum of Contemporary History Leipzig invites the visitor to actively take part: No GDR museum was created nor a nostalgic adventure park, but a place of elucidation and communication for all, a place for reflection and for historic self-assurance which allows for an experience of history and encourages discussion and reflection. The interaction between exhibition and visitor not only increases historical knowledge and evokes memento – one’s own history is alive here."

Computer.Gehirn (Computer.Brain)

Design of a special exhibition of the Heinz Nixdorf MuseumsForums in Paderborn with the subject of robotics, artificial intelligence and the question “ What are man’s capabilities? What are computer’s capabilities?"

"Do you think you think? What is the current development status of artificial intelligence in comparison to the abilities of the human brain? Will the dream of the all-purpose robot become a reality?
In an entertaining way, the special exhibition Computer.Gehirn stages the comparison Man vs. Machine in the form of a competition: Interactive exhibits and spectacular objects make the exhibition a unique experience. Learn about the world of senses through the subject areas “seeing” and “hearing”. Walking robots present the artificial “life as motion”. The exhibition concludes with the capabilities in which man is (still) ahead of the computer: art, creativity, consciousness, mind, will and emotion. "
